Know Your Clarinet
Learn more about the instrument and some of the best woodwind works written by Mozart

With the beautiful mellow sound and graceful tone it can offer, the clarinet is always being regarded as the most expressive woodwind instrument. In this all-Mozart programme, world-renowned clarinet master from Juilliard School, Charles Neidich, will perform on different types of clarinets. With Yip Wing-sie and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, he will also talk about the music, the instruments and his insights into clarinet playing.

The concerts will be held on:
26 September 2009 (Sat) 7:30pm & 27 September 2009 (Sun) 3pm
HK City Hall Concert Hall.
Tickets: $220, $150, $100

Mozart – The pioneer of the clarinet repertoire

Among all the works that Mozart composed, some of the most beautiful were those for the clarinet. The prodigious composer was in fact a great pioneer of the clarinet repertoire. At that time, the clarinet had just appeared a few decades earlier. The extraordinarily refined, mellow tone of the clarinet must have charmed Mozart so much that he wrote a number of great works for it that subsequently influenced the course of the instrument’s history. At the “Know Your Clarinet” concert, Hong Kong Sinfonietta will be performing an all-Mozart programme that will include The Magic Flute Overture, Divertimento for 3 Basset-Horns in B-flat, Serenade No 12 in C minor and Concerto in A for Basset Clarinet.
