CLORE Scholarship

Ms Margaret Yang, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, has been awarded the “Clore Leadership Programme – Hong Kong Scholarship 2009/10”. Together with 22 Fellows of the Clore Leadership Programme, Ms Yang will participate in an intensive leadership training programme for 4 weeks and also spend some time on secondment with cultural organisations in the UK between September 2009 and July 2010.

Ms Yang says, “This is the first year this fellowship has opened up to candidates in Hong Kong. I hope to take this opportunity to improve myself, add value to the management of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and in turn benefit the arts sector in Hong Kong. I would like to thank our Board Chairmen, Music Director Yip Wing-sie and our colleagues for supporting my application.”

Ms Yang received her bachelor’s degree in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and pursued further education in Arts Administration in London and Law at Cambridge. She worked as a solicitor at Lovells after having worked in local arts organizations including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Ms Yang has been CEO of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta since 1999.

With funding support from the Home Affairs Bureau, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, in collaboration with Clore Leadership Programme, launched the “Clore Leadership Programme – Hong Kong Scholarship 2009/10” in February with an aim to nurture local creative talents. Founded in 2003, the Clore Leadership Programme is an initiative of the Clore Duffield Foundation, which aims to strengthen leadership across a wide range of cultural activities. It offers Fellowships and Short Courses for individual leaders, and training for members of Boards of Directors of cultural organizations. Since 2004, 156 cultural leaders from the UK and abroad will have been awarded Fellowships on the Clore Leadership Programme.
