Colleen Lee Artist Associate/Piano
Hailed by the New York Concert Review Inc as “an extraordinarily talented young pianist”, Colleen Lee is one of the most brilliant pianists of the younger generation from Hong Kong and China, and a winner of many major prizes including the 6th Prize at the prestigious International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2005 and the First Prize at the International Seiler Piano Competition in Germany. She has collaborated with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Shanghai and Bangkok Symphonies, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, China, Warsaw, Queensland, Sendai, Hong Kong and Israel Philharmonic Orchestras. Her performances with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in Italy in 2009 were highly acclaimed. Lee received her training at HKAPA under Eleanor Wong and furthered her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover under Arie Vardi. Lee’s recordings include an all-Chopin album issued by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute and an all-Scarlatti Sonata CD for Naxos.
Samson Young Composer/Installation Artist
Described by contemporary music portal Sequenza 21 as “epic, dark, and fun”, Samson Young’s music often juxtaposes elements of play with intensely violent gestures to create experiences of rich darkness and perverted poetry. With formal training in classical music and a keen eye for moving images and installation-art, Young combines his expertise to create unique concert experiences.
Beyond the classical concert stage, Young's creative output spans the widest possible range: from music for symphony orchestra and electronics, to amusement-ride-turned-sound-installation, to video-theatre featuring himself dressed as a teletubby. In June 2007, Young became the first Hong Kong artist to receive the Bloomberg Emerging Artist Award with his Happiest Hour – a collection of Nintendo Game Boy-inspired audio-visual installations.
Young’s compositions, installations and multimedia works have been presented around the world in such festival as the Sydney Spring International New Music Festival and Canberra International Music Festival; Bowdoin International Music Festival and Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival; Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt; Dark Music Days in Iceland; Microwave International New Media Arts Festival and October Contemporary. His concert music received performances by Hong Kong Sinfonietta, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Bang on a Can Summer Institute Fellows, Network for New Music, New Millennium Ensemble, So Percussion, the Sydney Song Company and Grenzenlos, among others.
Young is a PhD fellow at Princeton University's department of music under the auspices of a Princeton University Fellowship and Naumburg Prize. His mentors in composition include Chan Hing-yan and electronic music pioneer Paul Lanksy. In addition, he has studied privately and in masterclasses with George Crumb, Toshio Hosokawa, Helmut Lachenmann and Steve Reich.

He will be Artist-in-Residence at the Spitalfields Festival in 2011.
Barley’s first disc on the Signum label, The Dance of the Three Legged Elephants, came out to critical success in 2009, and has just been followed by the release of Constant Filter, music for cello and electronics by John Metcalfe. SIU2 Band
SIU2, a locally bred band, presents a novel experience of Hong Kong music with their original and unique style. Their works aims to challenge people’s inherent concept about Chinese music and create a new genre, fusing modern and traditional, Chinese and western elements. However, the band cannot be labelled as merely another crossover of rock, classical, Chinese and western music. It’s something different.
SIU2’s band members are Yin Ng (composition, Sheng, Chinese percussion, keyboard), Cass Lam (Sanxian), Jason Lau (Zheng), Peter Fan (Piano), Liang chun wai (Bass) and Melchior Sarreal (drumset). Through invitation by the Hong Kong Arts Festival, SIU2 performed their original music in a concert titled “Sheng It Up” in March 2008, and published their first album “OPEN DOOR” in the same year, followed by a second album “Konfusion” in March 2010.
