"The cellist Tatjana Vassiljeva wowed everyone with her spellbinding virtuosity."   The Daily Telegraph

In 2001, Tatjana Vassiljeva became the first Russian ever to win the International Rostropovich Cello Competition in Paris (previous winners include Han-Na Chang). With her irreproachable technique and irresistible range of sonorities, she has since built a formidable reputation as one of the leading cellists of her generation. She has made several critically acclaimed recordings, one of which was awarded the Diapason d'Or. Catch her in action in Dvorák’s famous Cello Concerto on a 1725 Stradivarius, “Vaslin”, on loan from LVMH.

Led by James Tuggle, Music Director of the Stuttgart Ballet since 1997 (previously the Principal Conductor/Music Advisor at Vienna State Opera and conductor at Deutsche Oper Berlin), the orchestra will also perform two very touching works that are often used in movies and TV programmes: Pärt’s heartrending Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten and Beethoven’s Symphony No 7, which the composer called “one of my best works”.
