Hong Kong Sinfonietta plays a charming set of uplifting light classics that will make your heart DANCE.  Get ready for some fun audience participation, and an influx of positive energy!


Helen Cha            Piano

Helen Cha is one of the most exciting local pianists of the younger generation. As an active performer, she has appeared in solo recitals in North America, Europe and China, and collaborated with numerous orchestras including the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. A top-prize winner at many competitions including the 12th Hong Kong (Asia) Piano Open Competition and concerto competitions at Piano Texas and the Eastman School of Music, Helen Cha has recently obtained her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the renowned Eastman School of Music in USA. In this concert, she will perform Chopin’s Andante Spianato & Grande Polonaise Brillante with the orchestra.

James Cuddeford    Violin

Currently Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s Concertmaster Designate, Brisbane-born James Cuddeford pursued his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Manchester and had studied under teachers including Yehudi Menuhin, Li Wen-zhou and György Kurtág. Awards include First Prize at the 1996 Charles Hennen International Chamber Music Competition in Holland, where he led the Artemis Quartet. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the Camerata Lysy Gstaad of Switzerland, BBC Scottish National Orchestra, Jena Philharmonic, Queensland, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras. From 1998 to 2008, he was a member of the Australian String Quartet and subsequently the Grainger Quartet, with whom he has recorded and toured extensively.
